Design E-Learning courses for Neurodiversity.
Training for and with neurodiversity or how does neurodiversity affect learning.
The idea of neurodiversity promotes adapted educational structures and environments to better integrate the specific needs of certain learners. The concept is in opposition to neurotypicals.
We understand in neuro-atypicals, People with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Dyspraxia, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and Dyslexia.
The brain functions of neuro-atypicals are different and require adapted eLearning courses.
So you need to take this diversity into consideration when you set up your eLearning strategy but I'm here to reassure you! Adaptation is not a big task with our neurologically diverse Learning Management System (LMS).
A quick word about your author, I am Autistic, also known as Asperger's. I work regularly with psychologists who specialise in these issues. And I am at your disposal.
In this article I will list simple techniques and ideas to adapt your eLearning course to the difference for better inclusion. You do not have to develop content only to review a check list to make sur your content is accessible to everyone.
How to adapt Learning to Neurodiversity
12% of your friends and colleagues are neuro-atypical. A sizeable community and a lot of invisible talents.
Self-taught, high potentials, multi-potentials, creativities, powerful memories... Watch out talents!
In reference to my article on Social Learning where I promote group work, I renew the concept of by asking to involve cooperation between neurotypical and neuro-atypical.
Communication:
Remember to receive ideas and feedback via various channels. Some will prefer written communication but others verbal: Autistic in the first case dyslexic in the second case.
Tests and certifications
Value factual knowledge, multi-choice answers, activities where answers are connected or ordered... Avoid answers where spelling can be a barrier. In all cases, listen carefully and offer the means to always give feedback.
The right Learning Platform System (LMS) allow you to easily create and adapt your elearning courses.
It allows you to create interactive content, track your learners’ progress and collect data with ease.
It is a great tool for collaboration among your team members.
With an eLearning Platform (LMS), you can make your learning experiences more engaging, fun and rewarding for your learners.
You can use your LMS to create a Quiz Certificate in your digital training courses to motivate your learners and inspire them to achieve their goals.
The following are the types of quizzes available on our platform Learning Lab is perfect:
True / false:
Multiple choice quiz
Ordering
Matching
Fill-in-the-blank with already written worlds
Manual assessment : audio, video or written
Video-Based Learning Platform
Video is rich in information format content: Audio, Animation, Data, Illustrations, Texts... it is up to each person to appropriate the media and to see in the video the level of information adapted to their mode of functioning.
Test video: where the participant films himself in front of the screen for a dirty speech for example. This test can be audio only.
Screen recording: The learner records his screen to perform operations perfect for learning software
Video quiz: The instructor records a video, in the video he asks a question and the video pauses automatically. The learner answers the question and the video resumes.
Interactive Video: The video offers choices: option A or B, depending on the answers the video scenario changes.
The videos and audios can be uploaded or recorded directly on our LMS
Social Learning Platform
Learning through individual interconnection is amazing for the neuriversity.
Group work under the direction of an instructor or expert, and one-to-one interconnection are all part of a social learning platform's range of features.
It is primarily a method of knowledge development through group participation.
5 Steps to Create a Social Learning environement for neurodiversity to create a learn group.
Here are five steps to get you started:
Step 1: Design a storyboard to Frame the discussion
Step 2: Brief the experts and fix limitations
Step 3: Do an introduction tour so everyone can present themselves with their differences and strenghtes
Step 4: Fix the goals and objectives as well as ROI
Step 5: Present the outcome and collect feedbacks for improvements.
Our elearning platform is specially design for these type of activities. Do not hesitate to ask for a demo / Pilot.
Last thoughts on Neurodiversity and eLearning
Those with a neurodiverse brain see and process information differently, Some might find it difficult to comprehend other people's feelings, while others would find it challenging to maintain organisational files.
Neurodiverse individuals tend to be more comfortable with interpersonal relationships when neurotypical individuals consider environmental factors and make appropriate accommodations.
Use the strength of the diversity of your community. This is a chance and an occasion to increase company culture and inter communication.
